of FUTURITY RULES FOR 2011
GENERAL:
The MHAO Futurity was established in
2010 to aid in the promotion of horses owned by MHAO members.
The Futurity is designed as a 5-year plan which follows an
unborn foal through its 4-year-old show season.
The Futurity is sponsored by the Morgan Horse Association of
Oregon (MHAO) and administered by its Futurity Committee, which
consists of appointed MHAO members.

ELGIBILITY:
Foals must be registered or be eligible
to be registered as Morgans through AMHA.
Nomination of the foal is to be made by the owner of record or
holder of a valid AMHA lease for an AMHA registered Morgan mare that
is bred to an AMHA registered Morgan stallion at the time of the
foals nomination. Foal owners must be
members of MHAO or become members at the time of nomination or
renewal.
INITIAL FOAL NOMINATION: This
year, foals born or to-be-born in 2011 may be nominated for $45 by

will apply as detailed below through the horses 4-year old
year. Renewal fees need to be

LATE NOMINATION FEE:
A late nomination
fee of $100 will be accepted starting
FOAL NOMINATION RENEWAL: The
nomination of each Futurity foal entry must be renewed each
successive year (whether or not it is shown) in order for the entry
to be eligible for the following year.
The foal entry may not drop from the Futurity for one year and
re-enter for the next year.
A foal nomination
will be considered renewed for the next year when the following has
been submitted to the Futurity Secretary on or before
TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP:
If a foal is sold at
any time, Futurity eligibility goes with the foal provided the new
owner is or becomes a member of MHAO, payments have been made on
time, and continue to be paid promptly by the new owner until the
final date.
CLASSES:
Futurity classes will be held at the
annual OREGON MORGAN CLASSIC HORSE SHOW (OMC), or any show designated
as official by the Board of Directors of MHAO.
Futurity classes are independent of all other classes at the
show or any other horse shows, and therefore have no effect on other
DECLARATION:
A declaration of intent to participate
in a Futurity class is considered complete when the owner submits the
following to the Futurity Secretary by the Closing Date of the annual
OREGON MORGAN CLASSIC HORSE SHOW (OMC) entries.
Post entries will be accepted at double the regular
declaration fee up to such time as post entries for the show close.
Year One Classes: Foals In-Hand Division (2 classes)
- Separate Classes for fillies and colts
Year Two Classes: Yearlings In-Hand
Division (3 classes)
- Separate classes for fillies, colts, and geldings
Year Three Classes:
Two-Year-Olds
In-Hand Division (3
classes)
- Separate classes for mares, stallions, and geldings.

offered in 2011 as the oldest horses entered in the Futurity at this
time are 3-years old. Membership
input invited to this outline of classes.
Horses will be
shown under the current US Equestrian Federation rules for Morgan
classes. To encourage
participation and in the interest of safety; at the choice of the
owner, a futurity foal in the Year One Classes may be accompanied by
their dam in the ring during adjucation. Only one handler is
allowed per dam and must remain at a discreet distance so as not to
interfere with the adjucation of the foal.
All handlers must be dressed appropriately.
Dams to be lead in halter or bridle only and be suitably
groomed for presentation in the ring.
ALL OWNERS/LEASEES MUST BE MEMBERS OF
MHAO. Membership
is invited any time of the year.

FUNDING:
The Futurity is funded through annual
nomination fees, declaration fees, and any other fund raising
activities the Futurity Committee may choose to undertake.
REFUNDS:
Refund of the initial fee (paid in the
year of breeding) will be made only if the foal is still born, or
mare proves to not be in foal.
Notification needs to be sent to the Futurity Secretary by
June 30th. Thereafter no fee is
refundable or transferable.
LIABILITY:
MHAO is not liable for more than
the amount paid in by any entry. The Futurity Committee
reserves the right to reject any entry, or to debar any entry from
competition for failure to comply with the rules of the Futurity.
PRIZES:
Futurity funds not used to pay for
ribbons, trophies, and other expenses will be paid out as prize money
in the Futurity classes. The
committee is permitted to hold back some funds to cover upcoming
expenses in the next year.
