MORGAN HORSE ASSOCIATION OF OREGON

Draft of FUTURITY RULES FOR 2011

GENERAL:  The MHAO Futurity was established in 2010 to aid in the promotion of horses owned by MHAO members.  The Futurity is designed as a 5-year plan which follows an unborn foal through its 4-year-old show season.  The Futurity is sponsored by the Morgan Horse Association of Oregon (MHAO) and administered by its Futurity Committee, which consists of appointed MHAO members.

All correspondence with the Committee should be sent to the Futurity Secretary, whose current address is:

MHAO Futurity Secretary - Gay Adams

16818 S. Manor Dr.

Oregon City OR  97045

Email address:  sunstonemorgans@comcast.net

ELGIBILITY:  Foals must be registered or be eligible to be registered as Morgans through AMHA.  Nomination of the foal is to be made by the owner of record or holder of a valid AMHA lease for an AMHA registered Morgan mare that is bred to an AMHA registered Morgan stallion at the time of the foal’s nomination.  Foal owners must be members of MHAO or become members at the time of nomination or renewal.

INITIAL FOAL NOMINATION:  This year, foals born or to-be-born in 2011 may be nominated for $45 by March 31, 2011.  See “Late Nomination Fee” below for additional information.

Foals are normally nominated the year before they are born.  Therefore, foals conceived in 2010 must be nominated by December 31, 2010 for the lowest nomination fee.  The nomination deadline has been extended this year to March 31, 2011.

Foals are considered nominated when an eligible mare owner or lessee breeds their mare to a Morgan stallion and submits the following to the Futurity Secretary:

  1. Name & registration numbers of the sire and dam of the foal.
  2. Owner’s name, current address, and telephone number.
  3. An initial $45.00 nomination fee.  (Make check payable to MHAO Futurity, or pay via the web site, www.morganhorseassociationoforegon.com.

<![if !supportLists]>·                    <![endif]>Submit your fee along with items 1 and 2 above to the Futurity Secretary for validation.    For late fees, see Late Nomination Fee below.

<![if !supportLists]>·                     <![endif]>To remain in the futurity, renewal fees will apply as detailed below through the horse’s 4-year old year.  Renewal fees need to be paid starting December 31st, 2011.

LATE NOMINATION FEE:  A late nomination fee of $100 will be accepted starting April 1, 2011 until  close of Oregon Morgan Classic (OMC) show entries.  Information required in #1 and #2 above must be submitted to the Futurity Secretary for validation.  This fee replaces the $45 nomination fee.

FOAL NOMINATION RENEWAL:  The nomination of each Futurity foal entry must be renewed each successive year (whether or not it is shown) in order for the entry to be eligible for the following year.  The foal entry may not drop from the Futurity for one year and re-enter for the next year.

A foal nomination will be considered renewed for the next year when the following has been submitted to the Futurity Secretary on or before December 31, 2011.

  1. Owner’s name, current address, and telephone number.
  2. Name and registration number of the sire and dam of the foal.
  3. Name, sex, and registration number of the Futurity entry.  (Registration number not required for foaling year).
  4. A $25.00 nomination renewal fee.

TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP:  If a foal is sold at any time, Futurity eligibility goes with the foal provided the new owner is or becomes a member of MHAO, payments have been made on time, and continue to be paid promptly by the new owner until the final date.

CLASSES:  Futurity classes will be held at the annual OREGON MORGAN CLASSIC HORSE SHOW (OMC), or any show designated as official by the Board of Directors of MHAO.  Futurity classes are independent of all other classes at the show or any other horse shows, and therefore have no effect on other high point awards or show championships.  To be shown in Futurity classes, a horse must be nominated for the current year, and the owner must declare his/her intent to show (see Declaration).  A horse need not be shown every year to continue in the Futurity.  Classes will not be combined.

DECLARATION:  A declaration of intent to participate in a Futurity class is considered complete when the owner submits the following to the Futurity Secretary by the Closing Date of the annual OREGON MORGAN CLASSIC HORSE SHOW (OMC) entries.  Post entries will be accepted at double the regular declaration fee up to such time as post entries for the show close.

  1. Owner’s name, current address, and telephone number.
  2. Name, sex, and registration number of entry to be shown.
  3. Name and registration number of sire and dam.
  4. The class in which the entry is to be shown.
